The Musica Ficta group is considered one of the most prominent innovators of the interpretation of ancient music in our country. Since its founding in 1992, it has performed tours and concerts at the most important national festivals, as well as in Italy, Greece, France, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Cuba, United States, China, Japan, the United Kingdom and Andorra.
To date his discography includes twenty-two recordings, some of which have obtained awards and mentions in Spain, France and the United States: “10 de Répertoire”, “Best Spanish Music album 2004 CD Compact” for “Hispalensis” by Francisco Guerrero, “Best Renaissance Music album 2002 CD Compact” for “Officium Defunctorum” by Tomás Luis de Victoria, this album selected for the Classics Collection of the Country, selling more than 130,000 copies..
In 2005 they began a series of recordings for the Enchiriadis label around the time of Don Quixote, offering several world premieres such as the Cancionero de Turín or the Parnaso Español by Pedro Ruimonte. Together with the Ensemble Fontegara they have performed Schütz’s Musikalische Exequien, Handel’s Dixit Dominus, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Vivaldi’s La Senna Festeggiante, Charpentier’s Messe des morts, as well as other works by Purcell, Buxtehude and Bach.
In 2005, together with the Civitas Harmoniae orchestra, they performed, in a stage version, Sebastián Durón’s zarzuela “Salir el Amor del Mundo” at the Teatro Arriaga in Bilbao.
In August 2007 they completed the three volumes of the world’s first recording of the complete Villanescas Espirituales by Francisco Guerrero.
In February 2010, his recording of the 18 Responsories of Darkness by Tomás Luis de Victoria appeared, with extraordinary critical reception, the first of a series of projects aimed at commemorating, in 2011, the 400th anniversary of the death of the Avila composer.
In 2012 “Músicas Viajeras” appeared, with repertoire from the Three Cultures. In November 2014 they presented their “Live in New York” which includes the concert held at the Hispanic Society in New York with the program “Columbus: American viceregal music.”
Raúl Mallavibarrena (Oviedo, 1970) comenzó sus estudios musicales con su padre Juan Bautista Mallavibarrena.
Especializado en el repertorio de los siglos XV al XVIII, es fundador y director de los grupos Musica Ficta y Ensemble Fontegara, así como del sello discográfico Enchiriadis.
Ha dirigido conciertos en los principales festivales de España, así como diversos países de Europa, Magreb, Oriente Medio, Suramérica, México, Estados Unidos, China y Japón, con repertorio que va desde la música medieval hasta oratorios de Monteverdi, Haendel y Bach, zarzuelas barrocas, cantatas y óperas de Vivaldi, pasando por el más amplio repertorio renacentista europeo.
En diciembre de 2009 dirigió El Mesías de Haendel a la Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga.
En otoño de 2013 dirigió Dido y Eneas de Purcell.
Su discografía comprende veinte discos como director musical y más de cuarenta como productor.
Es invitado regularmente a impartir cursos y conferencias en universidades (Valencia, Málaga, Castilla-León, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Universidad de los Andes-Colombia, Cervantino de Uruguay) y centros especializados, así como colaboraciones para el Teatro Real de Madrid.
